EKHN: Church for one and all

The Protestant Church in Hesse and Nassau (EKHN) is located in the western centre of Germany. It includes the southern part of Hesse and the eastern part of Rhineland-Palatinate.

More than 1,71 million men, women and children belong to the EKHN. We are an ecumenically minded Protestant Church and see ourselves as part of worldwide Christianity. We confess the Lord Jesus Christ as God and Saviour and the Triune God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, in accordance with the worldwide fellowship of churches forming the World Council of Churches.

Vital to our church is the inseparability of faith and social responsibility. A lively spirituality, the engagement for peace, a fair distribution of wealth and employment within our country, a future-orientated, sustainable and responsible economic policy and the stewardship of God›s creation are central to our Christian identity.

The EKHN is one of 19 regional churches which form the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD). The EKD in turn is a member of the World Council of Churches which was founded in 1948. The EKHN further belongs to the Regional Ecumenical Council of Churches (ACK), the Conference of European Churches (CEC), the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe (CPCE) and extends its connections and partnerships to churches and congregations further afield – in Europe, Africa, Asia and the USA.

The EKHN is part of two international mission-societies, the Evangelical Mission in Solidarity (EMS) and the United Evangelical Mission (VEM), and supports the work of “Bread for the World“, financing projects in developing countries. In addition, it contributes to making people aware that poverty is created – and may be alleviated – by human beings.

The Protestant Church in Hesse and Nassau has its "Ecumenical Center" in Frankfurt which organizes the close contact to Christian and other religious groups worldwide.
